Sisu is the Finnish idea of quiet, stubborn resilience — and on the Keweenaw, it changes shape with the calendar.

Spring

The melt is messy and the streams run high and cold. Sisu in spring is patience: waiting for the water to clear and the trout to wake up.

Summer

Long days, warm rock, and the lake at its kindest. Sisu in summer is making the most of the light — early starts and late paddles.

Fall

Color floods the ridges and the air turns sharp. Sisu in fall is layering up and going anyway, because the Keweenaw is never more beautiful.

Winter

Deep snow, hard water, and steam rising off the shore. Sisu in winter is the whole point — fire against the cold, and the long exhale that follows.
